Your Baby’s Sleep Month by Month

How much and how long your baby sleeps is going to depend on your baby and your parenting style.  Some babies sleep lots, some not much. Some sleep in big bursts (long sleeps but not a lot of them) and others have short catnaps throughout the day. And some have high sleep needs while others have low sleep needs. My Baby Won’t Nap. Help!

Your once-a-happy-napper starts to fight you at nap time, and now your baby won’t nap.
Or
You put your baby down and think they’re off to nap-land, but 10 to 20 minutes later you hear them crying or babbling away to themselves. Surely they haven’t slept in this time?

8 Week Old / 2 Month Old Routine / Schedule

Here are two routine samples for around the 8 week – 2 month mark. While some babies still won’t have any recognizable routine by this age (don’t panic!) some are starting to fall into a pattern. This pattern isn’t always predictable and can change day by day, but if you pay attention you may notice:

The Baby Whisperer by Tracy Hogg – Book Review

As I sat in my hospital bed for 5 days recovering from an emergency c-section after the birth of my first born, I spent a lot of time reading through Secrets of the Baby Whisperer (or The Baby Whisperer as lots call it).  I had taken it into the hospital with me thinking that I might find time to flip to some important bookmarked pages if I found time. The one thing that surprised me most during those first few days post birth, was the amount of time that I found myself with. Secrets of the Baby Whisperer got a good workout!

But, I will never forget my favorite midwife, commenting on my reading material. “You should be reading your baby, not a book love”. (more…)
